A book doesn't end. The characters go on and on forever, never aging, never losing the passion of won love, or the feeling of triumph after the last scene of the book's climax. The characters we adore (in our own books and in others) live for eternity in one big, long Resolution scene.
I have entered the final phase of my current WIP, and plan to write the book's climatic scene tomorrow.
I'm terrified, but thrilled at the same time. I've had a certain moment playing like a skipping CD over and over in my head for months now. It's all been leading up to this one, powerful, heart-wrenching moment my protagonist will have to endure. I want to do it right, and so I think I'll be writing slow.
The best part: no "The End." Because as soon as I type in the # sign, I'm off to outline the third, and final, book of the trilogy. Let's just hope my editor & publisher want a third :-)

I've never typed The End (except I guess just now :) )
And yes, they will want a third book! If you write it, they will buy.
Oh, that's great. Happy writing tomorrow. I can feel your excitment in this post!
Thanks PJ and Angela, I've just taken a completely unexpected turn with this final scene and it's so exciting! I had to come up for air. 2,490 words is a lot for one morning!!
I love the way you've never written "The End." Good luck!
I did type "The End" when I finished my WIP. I think so I would know it was okay to stop.
Though I kind of did it as
an afterthought.
And go for that third book!
Beth, thanks! I'm going to hop on over to your blog :-)
Christine, I get what you mean. Sometimes you just have to scream at yourself to STOP WRITING ALREADY! :-)
I've written THE END for my screenplays. But you're right about teh finality of it. I never thought about it that way. They were not sequels though as my WIP (I think will be...)so now that I think about it like that... THE END would be wrong.
How about we invent our new "ending" phrase... To be continued... More to Come... Not Completely Over Yet... Almost the End, but Not Quite...
Sheri, I love it. How about "And So, It Begins..." :-)
What a great feeling! Good luck!
"The characters go on and on forever, never aging, never losing the passion of won love, or the feeling of triumph after the last scene of the book's climax...
How eloquently put. Hey, you must be a writer!
I think I found your blog through the wonderful Blue Boards, or one of the many other great YA blogs out there. I look forward to reading Everlasting. Sounds fantastic.
Great blog!
Angie I LOVE 'and so it begins' or 'and so it began...' that's perfect!
Danette, I just ordered Violet Raines off Amazon, and OMG, they are already making me wait until more are in stock!! Go you!
prince balthazar, I have seen your icon on some other blogs I visit. I'll come visit you!
Sheri, I agree "And so it began" is great! Let's start the revolution :-)
I'm there, Angie! And so it began...
I bought Violet Raines tonight and it was displayed FACE OUT!!!
Totally agree! We just write a snippet of our character's lives, but there's so much more happening once our bit is done.
*Love* "and so it begins..." :)
Angie, I read a post of yours on PJ's blog about your online crit group. Did they read excerpts from Everlasting? Just curious. I'm trying to find a good one and am wondering about the online groups.
Thanks!
